The Playwright: Jim Knable

 

Jim Knable’s plays have been produced by MCC Theatre, Woolly Mammoth Theatre, Soho Rep, NYC’s Summer Play Festival, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, New Jersey Rep, Actor’s Express in Atlanta, and multiple regional and university stages. Most recently his play Green Man was produced at STAGEStheatre in Fullerton, CA. His play Spain is included in Smith and Kraus’ New Playwrights: The Best Plays of 2008. He has written four plays specifically for young audiences. Three were commissioned and produced for school tours by The Playwrights Project: The Best Mistake, published by Dramatic Publishing; Hyper-Focus, published by Samuel French; and Lost in Words, published by Playscripts, Inc. The Truth about Dinosaurs, also published by Playscripts, was commissioned and produced for school tours by The Hangar Theatre. Mr. Knable is also a songwriter. His New York-based Americana band The Randy Bandits has released three albums of his music: Redbeard, Golden Arrow, and Live at Otto's Shrunken Head (all available on iTunes). He has collaborated with brother Sunny Knable on a post-war musical called Don't Go Gently and a children’s opera commissioned and produced by the Half-Moon Theatre called The Magic Fish. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and sons.
